Monthly Check-In: Goodbye March, Hello April

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
March in review: Introducing Temple University’s 10th president at the Temple Women’s Network Women Who Make It Work panel, my new business cards, a glowing down dog pyramid with my favorite ladies and my birthday dinner with all my best friends. Feeling so loved!

Each monthly check-in, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In March, I…

1. Turned 28! March is always one of my favorite months of the year because it’s my birthday month! I turned 28 on March 11 and celebrated with a weekend of fun. Twenty-seven was a pretty transformative year and I detailed my major lessons learned in this reflective post. I gave myself the day off on my birthday (perks of being your own boss!) and went out for lunch and a pedicure with my mom. That evening, I went to a glow-in-the-dark yoga class taught by my two best friends. On Saturday, I went out to dinner with my girlfriends and capped off the weekend with a family dinner on Sunday. Twenty-eight certainly started off with lots of delicious food and the people I love the most! My little brother is also a March baby and he turned 21 this year, so we celebrated him toward the end of the month with a family dinner and a night out at the bar.

2. Completed Month Two as CEO of my own business. A full #BecomingCEO update of Month Two will go live later this week, but as a preview, Month Two was great. While I definitely don’t feel “comfortable” by any means, I began to find my footing in Month Two, learning what works for me in terms of creating some structure in my life and what definitely does not work for me. My business began to feel more legitimate in Month Two when my business cards arrived (yay!) and when I started using Freshbooks (more on that to come) to help keep my finances straight. I did a bit of public speaking in March, with even more to come in April and beyond. If you’ve been curious about the type of work I’m doing and how I’m actually making this work, I recently shared a #ClientLove update sharing some of the details. Oh! My story of quitting my job to start my own business was featured in an article on The Huffington Post!

3. Created a brand new yoga page for my website. I recently launched a brand new section of my website dedicated to all things yoga. This has been on my backburner to-do list for quite some time, but I recently got a sudden burst of inspiration and spent an entire day creating a dedicated page for yoga on my website. On the yoga section of my site, you can read my yoga story, see my up-to-date class schedule, learn what you can expect from my classes, hear directly from my students and see some of my most popular yoga-related blog posts. I also recently outlined some seriously exciting things happening in my yoga world, many of which are taking place in April!

In April, I will…

1. Host my own yoga workshop and become a student again. I’ve been looking forward to April for quite some time because it’s a big month in my yoga life! This technically already happened a few days ago, but in April I hosted my first workshop- Yoga For Teens- more details to come next month! I’m also going to be a student again (hooray!) and am participating in an advanced teacher training intensive with Brittany Policastro (Beyond Asana Advanced Teacher Training Intensive). It has been almost a year since I completed teacher training, so I’m looking forward to learning how to take risks as a yoga teacher and strengthen my teaching further. I’m also teaching a bunch in April (see my full schedule here) and am participating in a meditation workshop, which I am super pumped about.

2. Speak to the PHLBloggers group (twice!). I love being a member of PHLBloggersChrystina Noel, who runs the group, is seriously a super woman! I am honored to be speaking to the group twice in April. This week, I’m leading a members-only workshop called “Brand Boost: Use Your Current Platform to Find New Opportunities” and later this month, I’m part of the Community Blogging Panel at the PHLBloggers conference, The Blog Connect. There are still a few tickets left if you’re interested in joining! The conference is at Saxbys headquarters which I am super excited about!

3. Take on Month Three of solopreneurship. It’s hard to believe I’m already in my third month of running my own business. Time is seriously flying by so much faster now than it ever did when I was at my corporate job. I’m loving my work with my clients and am super excited to continue it this month, along with hopefully welcoming a few new clients. I still plan to launch my revamped personal branding checklist later this month, so that’s something new and exciting to look forward to. I’m also pumped to go to New York City next week to cover the Shorty Awards for my wonderful client, Muck Rack.
