Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Book Endings That Left Me With My Mouth Hanging Open

Today, I’m participating in The Broke and Bookish’sweekly feature Top Ten Tuesday. Today’s topic is:

Top Ten Book Endings That Left Me With My Mouth Hanging Open

This Top Ten Tuesday definitely caught my attention because there have been SO many books lately that have left me completely reeling, mouth hanging open, racing online to find out WHEN I can get my hands on a sequel.

1. Delirium by Lauren Oliver: This was my absolute favorite book of 2011. What I loved about it was that there were many SMALL cliffhangers, but just enough of an ending to keep me satisfied until the sequel.

2. He’s So Not Worth It by Kieran Scott: My review of this one literally says, “Um, holy cliffhanger!” Yeah…for those who are fans of this series, you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

3. Twisted (or basically any book in the Pretty Little Liars series) by Sara Shepard: Every single Pretty Little Liars book leaves me on the edge of seat, goosebumps on my arms and chills down my spine. And I LOVE it.

4. Any book in the Private or Privilege series by Kate Brian: Talk about another amazing thriller/mysterious series…these books went from dark to insanely dark extremely quickly.

5. Divergent by Veronica Roth: I was blown away by the world that Roth built in this novel. And the ending? Incredible.

6. Matched by Ally Condie: Again with the dystopian novels…something about them just absolutely leaves me hanging and wanting more.

7. Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn by Sarah Miller: This book was less intense than others on this list, but I loved reading the book from both character’s perspectives, and when I finished this book, I was raring for the sequel.

8. Past Perfect by Leila Sales: This book didn’t make this list because of any kind of serious cliffhanger, but because I loved it so much that when I was finished, I literally wanted to re-start it.

9. Every Harry Potter book by JK Rowling: Clearly this had to make the list. Each book was more fantastic (and cliffhanger-y than the next!)

10. Perfect Fifths by Megan McCafferty: A perfect ending to a fantastic series.

  1. I listed Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on my list this week. As for Divergent, I felt it had an amazing ending because it set things up for the next book without inducing unnecessary angst. I hate it when an author has something randomly cause a problem at the end of a book rather then having the next issue grow organically out of what has come before.

  2. I really want to start the Jessica Darling series soon. It sounds amazing!

I can’t decide if I am more upset over the ending in Harry Potter 5 or 6, but 6 stands out to me as the most shocking ending because it was completely unexpected.

  3. Divergent, Delirium, and Twisted left me with my mouth hanging open as well. Divergent because of the surprising twists of events at the end; Delirium because of that HUGE cliffhanger and that sudden twist; Twisted just because of all the scandal and secrets contained. Oh, and your little comment about Past Perfect has made me want to read it even more now. 🙂

  4. I’ve read the first two by McCafferty, but was just going to stop there because I loved how it ended. She’s bound to really screw things up, so I’ve been afraid to read ahead. Sigh. Now I might need to.
