Monthly Check-In: Goodbye October, Hello November

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
October in review: A busy, yet awesome and fulfilling month! A getaway to Nashville with my mom, a brief work trip to quaint Gettysburg, a month filled with teaching yoga and a weekend of Halloween fun, including a 5K!

Each monthly check-in, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In October, I…

1. Traveled to Nashville (and Gettysburg!) October was a busy month of fall travel! The month kicked off with my annual mother-daughter long weekend getaway. This year, we headed to Nashville. Nashville was never really high up on my list of places to visit, but after visiting, I’m convinced it needs to be added to everyone’s list! I went to Nashville *not* a country music fan, but definitely came home one. Visits to the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman, the Grand Ole Opry and wearing cowgirl boots (exhibit A) for four days straight completely transformed me. I loved checking out the live music in the bars on Broadway and definitely indulged in my share of delicious Southern cooking (HELLO hot chicken!). Get to Nashville! I also spent a quick day and a half in adorable Gettysburg, PA for a work trip- SO beautiful there this time of year.

2. Started my own weekly yoga class. My much anticipated weekly yoga class kicked off towards the end of October! I had about 15 students in my first class and was so excited when everyone shared positive feedback after class and said how happy they were to have this new class time on the schedule. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge of improving my teacher and building a class up from scratch. AND, more good news! In October, I also got offered another weekly class on the schedule (more on that below) so now I’ll be teaching twice a week. In October, I also partnered with my friend Katie who owns Priya Hot Yoga in the city for a special class for the PHL Bloggers (a group I’m a member of). We had a blast co-teaching and introducing yoga to this wonderful group of bloggers!

3. Indulged in lots of fall fun. October is always one of my favorite months of the year and this year was no different. Every weekend was packed with something awesome and fun. I saw Ben Rector in concert (he’s SO good). I challenged and exhausted myself at a weekend yoga workshop on arm balances and inversions with Carson Clay Calhoun. I helped my sister move into the city and celebrated with her at her brand new apartment. My friend Kelsie and I screamed our way through Eastern State Penitentiary for Terror Behind The Walls. As mentioned, I traveled to Nashville and Gettysburg. I spent a gorgeous fall Saturday wine tasting and hanging out on a farm. I had an amazing Halloween weekend, running a 5K in my Three Blind Mice costume (see above) and had a fun night out in Conshohocken. I almost forgot about Temple Homecoming and the excitement of Temple winning seven games straight and appearing on national TV for their game against Notre Dame. OH, and the blog also turned THREE in October! WHEW. What a month!

In November, I will…

1. Begin teaching my second weekly yoga class (and continue my journey as a teacher!) As I mentioned above, I was so honored to be offered another weekly yoga class at my home studio. I’ll now be teaching every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and every Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. Having two regular yoga classes is a total dream come true for me! I’m also continuing my work with my yoga mentor Jennifer from Chime Yoga and Mentoring and am in the process of scheduling a yoga photo shoot so I can better market myself as a teacher. This month, I want to spend some time developing a yoga section of my website, as well. Time to buckle down and get serious if I want to make teaching yoga a major part of the career and life I am cobbling together!

2. Reinvigorate my freelance work and 30 Days of Gutsy course. After slowing down my freelance work over the past few months, I’m ready to dive back in with brand new energy. I’m excited and ready to take on some new writing/branding clients (Want to work together?) I’m also looking forward to repurposing the content from the 30 Days of Gutsy course into a packaged ebook/guide. I had a blast running the course, but I think the content may serve people better packaged a little bit differently. Stay tuned for more details!

3. Kick off the holiday season! As much as it kills me to see holiday lights up already (no joke, November 2- saw my first holiday lights), I always do look forward to the holiday season and November is one of my favorite times of year. Thanksgiving truly is my favorite holiday (all the delicious food and family time without the pressure and stress of gift giving) so I’m really looking forward to that, along with my annual Thanksgiving 5K that I run with my little sister. This month, I’ll also be celebrating one of my best friend’s 30th birthdays (Hi, Kelsie!) along with my dad’s birthday.
