What Makes Your Eyes Light Up?

what makes your eyes light up- Jessica LawlorIt’s no secret that I talk about yoga a lot, both here on the blog and in my real life.

Deep inside, I know that yoga is one of my greatest passions. However, it wasn’t until just a few weeks ago that I realized just how deep that passion runs- and how obvious it is to everyone else around me.

In the past two weeks, I’ve talked to two completely different strangers and they’ve both said the same exact thing to me after a brief conversation about yoga.

“Wow,” they said. “When you talk about yoga, your eyes light up. You smile from ear to ear. It’s 100 percent obvious that this is your passion.”

Those words, said on two different occasions, by two completely different people, really struck me.

Your eyes light up, they said.

It was something I never realized before.

But as soon as they said it, I knew they were right.

My whole demeanor changes when I talk about yoga. I start bubbling with excitement. I have so many stories to tell. There’s so much I want to share.

How beautiful is it to have a passion so deep and so intense that your body physically changes when you talk about it?

So, I ask you, what makes YOUR eyes light up? Have you found something you love so deeply that you can’t help but smile when it comes up in conversation?

(And if you haven’t found your thing yet, that’s okay, too. Yoga didn’t enter my life until two years ago. Your thing may be waiting just around the corner, if you’re open to welcoming all possibilities)

Tell me about your passion- I want to hear all about it! What makes your eyes light up? Share your thoughts in the comments, please.

I think it’s awesome you found yoga — I’m envious that you’ve found something you love so much! The closest I get to feeling my eyes light up these days is definitely talking about my son, but I’m also extremely passionate about reading (especially its importance for kids) and writing. Hopefully more will come!

    • Thanks so much, Meg! I feel grateful to have found yoga, too! Never thought something could change my whole demeanor like this. I think you totally have passions 🙂 Reading is so obviously one of them! And writing, of course! <3

If I were a cartoon and had to talk about my passion, heart emojis would pop out of my eyes from discussing books! I love reading and I love supporting literacy as well as promoting it. I switched careers from ESL teacher to librarian and I was lucky enough to get a job working as a trainee for a public library; I couldn’t be any happier! Even before this job though, I would light up at the mention of books or I’d be much more chatty when I could discuss them in conversation lol. We all have our passions and it’s a blessing if we’re able to find them soon in life. Yoga must be peaceful, graceful and lovely for you to love it so much. 😀

    • Aw! I love how you said, “If I were a cartoon.” What an awesome visual! I love that your passion is books! So wonderful that you’ve found something you love so deeply.
