Monthly Check-In: Goodbye May, Hello June

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
May in review: a fun blog photo shoot in the city, an evening in adorable Bethlehem, PA, standing by my best friend as she became a Mrs. and teaching some really fun yoga classes, including this one with a cool warrior strap sequence.

Each monthly check-in, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In May, I…

1. Launched Personal Branding Bootcamp! Revising my Personal Branding Checklist and officially launching Personal Branding Bootcamp has been on my to-do list since February. It’s so easy to push your own personal projects to the back burner when there’s a “choice” between that and client work. However, I knew it was really important to me to get this out into the world, so I set a new deadline and moved quickly to make it happen. I created a landing page, worked with my amazing designer Brigette Indelicato on the checklist and marketing materials, published this blog post, sent out an email to my list and crafted social media posts to promote my new offering. The launch was a bit quieter than I had anticipated, but I’m just happy to have something I can point people to when they ask how I can help them with personal branding. First launch as a CEO = complete!

2. Participated in a blog photo shoot. Taking new photos for my blog/business was also a top priority after quitting my job in December. The photos I am using are from a blog photo shoot two and a half years ago and while I still love the pictures, I wanted updated photos that represent who I am and where I am now in my business and life. I partnered up with Chrystina Noel for the photo shoot and we spent the day running around the city looking for awesome backgrounds. We started at the Front Street Cafe in Fishtown where we took some business-y shots inside. Then, I changed into a more fun outfit and we found some cool brick and colorful walls in Fishtown to use as a backdrop. We finished at Race Street Pier, using the Ben Franklin Bridge as our last shot. I LOVE Chrystina’s photos and can’t wait to share the edited versions here soon. In the meantime, catch a sneak peek of one of my favorites in the collage above.

3. Had an amazing month personally and professionally. In one word, May was a FULL month. Professionally, things are going super well. My May business recap is coming out next week, but I increased my income to a new level that I’m really excited about. I taught numerous yoga classes, including a donation class at a local Relay For Life, which was definitely a brand new experience for me. I had a pinch myself moment yesterday when I found myself practicing yoga at a winery next to a 6ABC anchor for a media segment I coordinated for my client Crossing Vineyards. Personally, May was SO much fun. My best friend Rachel got married and I got to stand by her side in her wedding (Oh! And I caught the bouquet!). I traveled to Bethlehem for the Ellie Goulding concert with my friend Kaitie. I had a super fun Memorial Day Weekend filled with good food, parties and friendship. Basically, May rocked, and I can’t complain.

In June, I will…

1. Kick off the summer! I am so excited for my first summer as a solopreneur. I’m planning to revamp my daily schedule to wake up a little earlier in the morning during the summer months to get the bulk of my work done before noon or 1 p.m. each day to keep my afternoons free for adventures. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to run my own business: to have more schedule flexibility and get to live more life and take advantage of beautiful days. Of course, my business is my main priority, so I’m sure there will be afternoons spent working from time to time, but I am really hoping to be able to take advantage of being my own boss this summer.

2. Celebrate one full year as a yoga teacher. On June 7, 2015, I taught my very first yoga class! What a whirlwind year it has been since then. From wondering if I’d ever have my own spot on a schedule to having my own two classes (soon to be three! Starting at a new studio soon!) and subbing all over the city and suburbs, I’ve definitely found a rhythm with teaching. I’ll probably do a full post on this soon, but here are some fun facts: since becoming a teacher, I have taught 113 yoga classes for a total of 137 hours. In May, I wrote about my why, and teaching yoga is a huge part of that. I feel so grateful to have found my place as a yoga teacher and I can’t wait to continue this lifelong journey.

3. Enjoy a somewhat quiet month. Ever look at your calendar and see lots of evenings and weekends free? This usually doesn’t happen to me, but June is looking somewhat…quiet. Nothing major is on the horizon for June (wait, what?!), but I’m sure some fun things will pop up between now and the end of the month. I’m personally just excited for warmer weather! I have a weekend trip to NYC planned, I’m running a 5K and I have lots of dinner/drinks catch-ups scheduled with friends. Business-wise, I’m in the middle of a couple of proposals and new client pitches, so I am hoping to bring on a few new clients for the summer to round out my busy portfolio.
