Monthly Check-In: Goodbye March, Hello April

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
March in review: Awesome #GetGutsy letters made for me by the lovely Janelle to celebrate the end of the 30 Days of Gutsy course, my books for yoga teacher training, a “glow crow” during a fun Glow With The Flow yoga party and celebrating my 27th birthday!

Each month, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In March, I…

1. Began yoga teacher training. I’ve anxiously awaited the start of yoga teacher training since I applied back in November and the time is finally here! So far, we’ve completed two full weekends of teacher training and I’ve never felt so sure that I’m doing the right thing as I feel with this. It feels GOOD to make focusing on myself…focusing on THIS, making it my priority. I know I’m exactly where I am supposed to be. I’m loving our hOMework, our readings and writing reflection papers on each of our chakras. I’m really enjoying practice teaching my coworkers during lunchtime yoga sessions at work. I’m still nervous about the road ahead, but I’m trying to take this one step at a time. I’ve been detailing my teacher training weekends on the blog and will continue to do so throughout the rest of the program.

2. Celebrated my 27th birthday! Birthdays get a little less exciting each year, but 27 felt pretty special! I worked on my actual birthday, but celebrated with my family that weekend. My mom, sister and I spent the day exploring three different area wineries and later went to one of my favorite restaurants in the city (Spice 28, yum!). I’m starting to realize that birthdays are less about the number of birthday texts you receive or Facebook posts on your wall and more about spending time with the people you love and care about the most. My birthday was super low-key and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Here’s to 27! I have a good feeling about the year ahead.

3. Completed the first public run of the 30 Days of Gutsy course. Whew! After months of planning, a beta run in November and a huge push to promote and sell the course in February, I officially completed the first public run of the 30 Days of Gutsy email course. Seventeen amazing go-getters joined the course and we embarked on a month-long journey to step outside our comfort zones to reach our goals. It was AWESOME! I’m so proud of all of the students and can’t wait to run the course again in the fall. If you’re interested in being the first to know when the course re-opens, please drop your name and email address here.

In April I will…

1. Slow down.  I realized in March that I’ve been in go-go-go mode since October. The Get Gutsy ebook launched in October. I ran the beta version of the 30 Days of Gutsy course in November. The Get Gutsy Essay Contest launched in December. We celebrated Get Gutsy Week in January. I promoted and sold the 30 Days of Gutsy course in February and ran the course in March. I am exhausted looking at this list and thinking about how much creation and promotion I’ve crammed into almost half a year. I’m so proud and super grateful for all the amazing things that have happened with the blog/community over the past few months, but I also recognize that there is truly only so much you can do before you have to take a break. In April, it is time to DO LESS and rest and relax. It’s time to write and blog FOR FUN and not because I’m trying to promote something.

2. Celebrate Temple Alumni Weekend. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you likely know that I’m a HUGE fan of my alma mater, Temple University, and I’m a very proud Owl. The end of April marks Temple’s Alumni Weekend and I’m even more excited about this year than ever before. Some of the events on my agenda include a Phillies game, a 5K, a festival and the event I’m most pumped about…Diner en Cherry. For those familiar with the popular pop-up event, Diner en Blanc, this is a variation on that where everyone is encouraged to wear Cherry (Temple’s color!) and will find out the surprise location of the massive dinner part just minutes before it begins. I need to work on my outfit, but you better believe I’ll be wearing a fabulous fascinator!

3. Continue yoga teacher training and immersing myself in classes. As part of my yoga teacher training, I’m required to take 60 classes by the time I graduate, so I’ve really been focused on keeping my schedule as clear as possible so I can get to class 5-6 times per week. In April, I also have a few different weekends of teacher training and I’m pumped to keep learning more and continue practice teaching. It’s hard to believe that by the end of June, I’ll be a yoga teacher! I’m truly loving this journey and want to continue soaking it all in as much as possible.
