Random Bookish Friday Thoughts

-Today is my birthday! Woohoo! Today, I am 23 years old…yikes. I don’t want to get older. 22 seemed like the perfect age. Someone convince me that getting older is so much better than being young. Please? Maybe 23 will be the year I finish writing the novel…hmm…

-By the time this post is published, I will most likely be on my first red eye flight. I traveled to Arizona for work this week and will be flying overnight to get home. By the way, Arizona is absolutely beautiful. It was so fabulous to get out of the chilly Philadelphia weather and into beautiful blue and sunny skies…oh, and did I mention, it was 80 degrees? West Coast? I like you a lot.

-I began reading SKIPPING A BEAT by Sarah Pekkanan on my plane ride to Arizona and I was once again completely blown away by her writing. I’m not finished yet, but I’m sure I’ll finish devouring it this weekend. Sarah is such a fantastic writer!

-Last weekend, I had the opportunity to hang out with two lovely bookish ladies: Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner and Steph from Steph Su Reads. We met up for dinner and then of course wandered around Barnes and Noble for a few hours (come on, what did you expect that we would do?!). It was so awesome to get to hang out with two like-minded bookworms. Which brings me to my next point…

-Jamie, Steph and I would like to put together a Philadelphia-area book blogger book swap/meet up in April. Are you interested? Let me know and we’ll get a list of bloggers going. How fun, right?!

-The ladies of WriteOnCon announced the dates for the 2011 conference and are having a ton of awesome contests…check them out!

  1. Happy birthday! I loved being 23 (that’s the age I met my fiance), but I love being in my mid-twenties in general. It’s like, I’m still young and hip and adventurous, but I’m also old enough that people take me more seriously now, I think.

I’m not a book blogger and I’m not sure if I’m around in April, but I love books and I love Philly! So… keep me posted. I’d love to meet ya. 🙂

    1. @Allison Blass, I like your rationale for getting older. It’s very true! And I certainly hope I meet my future fiance at age 23! That would be lovely! 🙂

I will def. keep you updated on April!

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESS!!!!! I know it’s hard, but don’t even focus on age. You’re only as old as you feel! 🙂
I just got Skipping a Beat the other day, I can’t wait to read it. I loved The Opposite of Me.
Have you read The Pioneer Woman’s book, Black Heels to Tractor Wheels? OMG… I had not regularly read her blog, so I wasn’t completely familiar with her story but she has me hooked with this book and I think you would like it too!

    1. @Amber, Thanks Amber! 🙂 And thank you so much for the book rec! I’m adding it to my list. I know Write Meg loves her blog, but I’ve never read it before!

  3. Happy birthday! Hope it’s a great day! 23 was a pretty good year for me, as it should be for everyone!

I’m not *that* close to Philly (about an hour and a half away), but keep me in the loop as you’re planning; maybe I could figure something out!

  4. Happy (one day belated) birthdayyyyyy!!!! Too bad you were on a plane for your birthday, but you DID just get to spend the past week in Arizona, which is awesome! I hope it went well and I am totally psyched for the possibility of the Philly blogger meetup.

  5. Yikes, I’m one day late but happy belated birthday! I hope it was a good day for you 🙂

23 is NOT old at all–you are still young, vibrant and fabulous. Just think of it as another year where you can learn more about writing and life and to also create some more memories to look back on.

As for SKIPPING A BEAT: I read the goodreads summary and it sounds awesome! I’m curious to know what the girl will do…

    1. @Sandy, Hahaha, thank you so much doll! I know 23 is still young…I’m just nostalgic for my even younger years. Haha.

  6. Happy birthday! I am 26 so I feel old when you say 23 lol…I don’t know if getting older is better but we can just say it is to make ourselves feel better 🙂 And 80 degree weather makes me super jealous – I hope you got to enjoy the sun as much as possible!

  7. Happy (very) belated birthday, Jess! I can’t believe I missed it. BAD FRIEND. Hope you had a great one and enjoyed your work travel — that’s so awesome! And yay for blogger meet-ups. Always such a good time!
