Waiting On Wednesday

Today, I’m participating in Waiting on Wednesday, a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine. This event highlights the upcoming releases that we are eagerly awaiting!

Today, I am waiting for…

Save As Draft by Cavanaugh Lee (February 1, 2011 by Simon & Schuster)

Check out this Goodreads summary:

A broken engagement, a broken heart, and endless drafts of unsent emails. A love triangle unfolding in the electronic age illustrates all that can go wrong (and right) by this new form of miscommunication. Told in “electro-epistolary” form, the novel unfolds entirely through emails and text messages. What do these tools of technology mean for love? What happens when age-old courtship rituals fall prey to the ever-changing sensibilities of how we share not only information, but our own hearts?

I absolutely love books that are written in email or text form. We all spend so much time emailing and texting in real life, so I always appreciate when authors try to incorporate it into their books. In this case, the whole book is written through emails and text messages! I love the idea that our interactions online have such a deep influence on our real life relationships.

I first saw this book on Lauren’s In My Mailbox post this week and checked out her initial thoughts on Goodreads, where she wrote, “One of the most frustrating books I’ve ever read and I’m still trying to decide if that’s a good thing or bad thing or both…I’m leaning towards both.” A book that gets this kind of strong reaction is one I definitely want to read!

What are you anxiously waiting for this Wednesday?

  1. I’m always weary of this type of book because it can go horribly wrong if it’s not done well. That aside, I’m always willing to power through if the story is there. This one sounds interesting and I like the title. So many things can go wrong with electronic communication. I can’t tell you how many times I was in a rush at work and emailed the wrong person or hit “reply all” when I only wanted to reply to one person. One click and you can’t take it back!

    1. @melissa, Oh man, believe me, I’ve made my share of those mistakes. I meant to forward a snarky email to a friend with my commentary and accidentally REPLIED to the person. Not good. I think that’s why I might be so interested in this book- seems like there are many possibilities.

  2. Ooohh this sounds really good! I love books that are written in different formats and this sounds like it will be a great one!

  3. I’m waiting for this book too! I am hoping to go to her signing at the end of the month to meet her and get my copy signed! 🙂

  4. Jessica, thanks so much for posting about my baby, er, I mean, first book. 🙂 I hope you enjoy it! Unfortunately, there aren’t any signings in Philly yet (my mom’s from New Florence, PA, btw), but I’d be happy to sign a copy! Shoot me an email at [email protected], and we’ll figure it out! xoxoxox -Cav

  5. Thanks so much for the mention! This book is very frustrating but really, really worth a read because the frustration is what makes it the more memorable, in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it when you have the chance to read it!
