Start your week right! Every Sunday I post my favorite links from around the web and share my goals for the upcoming week.

Links

On The New Year:

This Surprising New Year’s Resolution Could Change Your Life: Instead of setting resolutions and goals for the New Year, how about…you don’t. Courtney Sunday writes, “If you are in the midst of “shoulda woulda coulda” mode-in the form of New Year’s resolutions-consider putting your ambition on hold. That itself can be your most important resolution.”

Before Planning For 2015: A Travel Adventure to La Gomera: Alexis Grant explains why downtime must precede planning…and describes how she’s doing just that during a trip through La Gomera, a Spanish island off the coast of Morocco. (Alexis also wants 2015 to be more about simplicity…a sentiment I can definitely relate to.)

On Being Kind:

Be Kind Whenever Possible. It Is Always Possible: An important reminder from Alexandra Franzen regarding kindness. She even provides some sample scripts for situations when it may feel challenging to be kind.

On Careers:

A Day In The Life: Magazine Editor: Ever wondered what it might be like to be a magazine editor? I loved this glimpse into Kristin Luna’s world as a managing editor of a magazine. (If you love travel, her blog is also a must-read!)

On Burnout:

The Anatomy of a Burnout: Welcome To Thailand: An amazing and new-to-me blogger, Alex In Wanderland, details what it’s like to experience burnout, even when your life may seem amazing from the outside looking in.

On Getting Gutsy:

Each week leading up to the deadline for submissions for the #GetGutsy Essay Contest, I’ll share my favorite quote from the inspiring entries I’ve received that week. Don’t forget to join in and share your story! (Because I’ll be away and scheduling next week’s Start Your Week Right Sunday before I go, any essays submitted next week will be featured at a later date!)

Get Gutsy: How a Diagnosis Led To A New Definition: “Sometimes we’re getting gutsy and we don’t even realize it.” I am totally biased, but this story by my sister Jamie is a must-read. She opens up about a major health scare she experienced this fall and how that experience changed her definition of gutsy.

Get Gutsy: “‘Lose the weight!’ These three words echoed in my mind the entire year of 2014. This was going to be my year.” Read on for more on Jade Barnes’ thoughts on body image.

Facing Fears and Getting Gutsy: “To get gutsy is to do something you never thought you could do, something positive and adventurous, that makes others wince in wonder that you dared to try.” Robin Botie’s powerful essay contest entry brought me to tears. I hope you’ll choose to read on.

Getting Gutsy in 2015: “To me, ‘getting gutsy’ means letting go of excuses, pushing past fear, and stepping over all obstacles that get in the way of you doing the things that you want and need to do.” Explore more of Antonisha La’Shay ambitious goals in her contest entry.

My Get Gutsy Story: Small Wins and Book Blogs: “I think ambition can sometimes be more of a burden than a blessing.” I tend to agree with Brittany Berger on that…and doesn’t that sentence just make you want to read on?!

Scary vs. Gutsy: “And the hardest part about being gutsy is simply believing in yourself when the scary gets tough.” What’s the difference between scary and gutsy? Megan Wagner knows.

This Week on JessicaLawlor.com:

Three Words for 2015: Forget New Year’s resolutions or goals. Instead, choose three words to guide you through the year. Here are my three words for 2015.

The Get Gutsy Annual Review: It’s time for the Get Gutsy Annual Review! Here are the top 10 highlights from 2014, lessons learned and how I really felt throughout the year.
