Monthly Check-In: Goodbye June, Hello July

Monthly Check-In: Jessica Lawlor
June in review: Matthew’s prom, graduation, graduation party and running a 5K with my good friend Rachel.

As I mentioned last week, June was quite a month. I’m looking forward to welcoming July (and the second half of 2013!) with open arms. Let’s get to it!

Each month, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format (I’d appreciate a brief shout-out) and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In June, I…

1. Watched my little brother graduate from high school. Congratulations Matthew! June was all about celebrating my little brother as he went to prom looking all handsome in his pink tux and graduated from high school. My mom threw yet another successful party at the Lawlor’s, complete with tons of food, delicious drinks and super cute decorations including a scrapbook, bulletin board and baseball-themed dessert table. In just a few months, he’ll be off to Temple University!

2. Ran two 5Ks. June was a great month for running! It’s been so freeing not to be training for a long distance race and just simply enjoying running for fun and for speed. I ran two very hilly 5Ks (in the same week, nonetheless!). I didn’t PR or reach my goal of a sub-30 minute 5K, but I had a great time. I’m well on my way to achieving my 13 races in 2013 goal if I keep things up!

3. Landed a new and awesome freelance client. I’ve been writing for Muck Rack, a blog for PR pros and journalists, for the past few months. Last month, I was able to take my involvement with the site to the next level by bringing them on as a client to help manage their blog as Features Editor. I’ll be evaluating pitches, working with guest bloggers, editing and publishing posts on a freelance basis- pretty much a dream client! If you’re interested in writing for the blog, check out the submission guidelines and send me a pitch!

In July, I will…

1. Celebrate my little sister’s 21st birthday. Oh my goodness- Jamie’s going to be 21! The thought of this simultaneously makes me SO excited and also scares the hell out of me. I can’t wait to celebrate her birthday week (yep, the celebration is pretty much going to last an entire week). Right now, we’re planning on doing a big bash in Philly, complete with a fancy dinner, hotel stay and night out. So fun! I can’t wait to introduce my little sis to the wonderful world of being 21!

2. Run the “happiest 5K on the planet” for the second time. Last year, The Color Run came to Philadelphia for the first time and it was basically the most fun “race” I’ve ever run. I say “race” very loosely because this race really required no running; mostly just skipping and prancing our way through three miles of fun music and color. I can’t wait to get all decked out in white and finish the race drenched in all colors of the rainbow again.

3. Enjoy amazing live music. Did you hear? John Mayer will be in Philly THIS WEEK for the Wawa Welcome America 4th of July Jam…if you didn’t already know, I’m a HUGE JM fan, so I plan to be there rocking out! Later this month, I’m also going to be seeing Train, Gavin DeGraw and The Script live at an outdoor venue; what could be better?! I love summer concerts!
