The Kindness of Book Bloggers

Have you ever stopped to think about how incredible and kind the book community is? Of course, I always have a sense of pride about being a book blogger, but lately some of my fellow bloggers have shown me so much kindness that I knew I wanted to talk about it here on Cover to Cover.

-A few weeks ago, completely out of the blue, I got a surprise package in the mail. I opened it and saw it was a note from the lovely Meg.  Along with an incredibly sweet note, Meg included Susane Colasanti’s forthcoming book SO MUCH CLOSER. Meg knows how completely I am with Colasanti’s work and randomly decided to pass her ARC along to me since she knows how much I wanted to read it. Even though I know how kind Meg is on a regular basis, I was still completely shocked and excited.

-Similarly, a couple weeks back, I commented on Kelsey’s In My Mailbox post, and saw she had received ONCE WAS LOST by Sara Zarr, a book that has a beautiful cover and one that definitely caught my eye. I left a comment and a few minutes later, received an email from Kelsey. She said she had an extra copy of the book and would be happy to send it to me. How awesome is that?

In addition to the wonderful things fellow book bloggers have done for me lately, I wanted to make you all aware of a few other great things going on in the community.

-Britney and Farrah from I Eat Words are asking people to like this YouTube video, where Farrah explains that they are trying to raise money to purchase new books for two children’s hospitals. Check it out and definitely give it a like. I watched the entire video and was so touched by how passionate Britney is about this initiative.

-In January, Kristi from The Story Siren posted about her cousin Kaylea who is currently battling leukemia. Kristi asked for fellow book lovers to send Kaylea a note or a book. She also posted a link to donate to Kaylea’s family. Just a few weeks later, Kristi posted an update that $1,200 had been raised for the family and several people donated books!  How incredible is that?

  1. Aww — book bloggers are definitely a kind and generous bunch! I was excited just sending you that book, haha. 🙂 So glad you were pumped, too. Since I started book blogging, I’ve met countless people and also gotten surprise books in the mail from others — plus countless other goodies! It’s one of those things that, over time, you realize we’re not all “online” friends . . . we’re real friends. And that’s awesome. 🙂

  2. Thanks for thinking of us! Just a side note, it’s Farrah talking in the main video. Britney talks in the second video about Scottish Rite. 🙂

Thank you for helping us spread the word! YAY BLOGGERS.

    -Farrah

  3. I am still rather new to the book blogging community but I am definitely in awe of the kindness of this community. It might seem small, but comments of support and offers for advice have been plentiful from the beginning and I have loved every send of it. I continue to be amazed by how generous and just all around amazing book bloggers are. Thanks for pointing out some more reasons why it is so great to be a part of this community!

  4. Congratulations for posting such a useful blog. Your blog is not only informative and also extremely artistic too. There usually are extremely few people who can write not so simple articles that creatively. Keep up the great writing !!
