Listen up.
I’m here today to tell you something you probably don’t want to hear.
You know how you’re always lamenting the fact that there just aren’t enough days in the week? Or that if you had just a few more hours in a day, you’d be able to accomplish your goals? If only you didn’t have to stay at work that extra hour or if you hadn’t sat in traffic on the way home….the list of excuses goes on and on.
Believe me, I’m guilty of wishing these things and making excuses too.
But here’s the hard truth: there will NEVER be enough time.
Time is absolutely fascinating. Books have been written about it, people are obsessed with productivity and we’re all trying to figure out how to cram more into our days while still enjoying and embracing life. Not an easy task to master.
Here’s the thing: if you want something badly enough, you will make the time for it. (Tweet this).
You want to run a 5K? Good, quit talking about learning how to run and lace up your sneakers.
You want to write a book? Write just a couple of words every day and eventually you’ll have a book.
You want to wake up earlier? Don’t hit snooze when your alarm rings!
Easier said than done, of course, but I’m confident that if you want something badly enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen.
Time management ISN’T simple. It’s something I struggle with on a daily basis. Here’s an example: Right now, I have a full-time job, work with clients and write as a side gig, train for races, am taking a business course and in between all of that, I try to have some semblance of a social life and spend time with family and friends. I won’t lie. It can be completely exhausting.
However, these are all things I want to do.
I want to succeed at my full-time job. I want to continue to grow my blog and freelance business. Training for races excites me and challenges me. I want to learn more about how businesses work. And of course, spending time with loved ones fulfills me and pushes me to keep going.
The key here, for me at least, is to understand that I CAN do it all, but I need to prioritize. That’s one of the reasons I schedule my weeks in advance, putting time on my calendar to run or dedicating a specific morning to writing a blog post.
Finding the time may mean waking up before the sun. It may mean staying up late, long after everyone else has gone to sleep. It may mean using your lunch break at work to flesh out a blog post idea or catch up on business emails. It may mean sacrificing a Sunday afternoon on a beautiful sunny weekend to write a client proposal.
But it’s possible to FIND the time, even in the smallest nooks and crannies of the day, to do even just a little bit…because (as one of my new favorite quotes goes), “A little, little by little, makes a lot.” And if you want it badly enough? Believe me, I know you’ll make it happen.
Tell me: what’s the ONE thing you want to do but have been putting off due to lack of time? Let’s talk it out in the comments below.
