1. The plot of HOURGLASS is certainly unique. What made you decide to write a book about time travel?
Emerson just showed up and I followed her story. She saw a ghost, and I didn’t want it to be like a ghost anyone had ever seen before.
2. You mention that writing HOURGLASS was an organic process where the story really unfolded as you were writing. Have you ever experienced this before or do you normally plot and plan before sitting down to write a story?
I think for first books or books that begin a series it’s vital to play. Brainstorm, play “What If?”, try to see where you can go that no one else has.
3. Tell me about your writing process. How long does it normally take you to finish a novel? How long did you spend on revisions for HOURGLASS?
Ideally, I’d like about nine months for a first draft. I got really stuck on my sequel and didn’t write for a while. I won’t do that again on a deadline! I spent about a month on my global/big issue revisions for my editor. 
4. Many people have raved and raved about how beautiful the cover of HOURGLASS is (I completely agree!) What was your reaction when you first saw the cover?
I screamed because I loved the colors and the balance, and then my kid’s babysitter explained it to me. She turned it sideways, and I screamed some more.
5. As a debut author, in what ways are you planning on working with your publicist to promote HOURGLASS?
I do whatever, whenever. I would probably wear a chicken suit in the streets. But seriously, interviews, guest posts, and some giveaways!
6. On your website, you mention that you’re working on more books in the world of HOURGLASS. Do you have plans for any other YA books? I do. I’m playing with a world right now – it’s all story soup!
