Start Your Week Right Sunday: Links and Goals

Start your week right! Every Sunday I post my favorite links from around the web and share my goals for the upcoming week.

Links

On Blogging:

The Top 10 Ways To Get The Traffic You Crave: CopyBlogger’s Jon Morrow shares 10 awesome (and simple to follow) tips for increasing your blog traffic.

31 Things I Loved On the Internet in January: Resources for Writers, Creators, and Dreamers: Take a few minutes (or hours) and sift through this awesome post full of useful links compiled by writer Dana Sitar.

10 Business Lessons I Learned In Vegas at New Media Expo: Carrie Smith from Careful Cents outlines 10 business lessons she learned from attending one of the biggest blogging/tech conferences of the year. I especially relate to lesson #4 about getting out of your comfort zone!

On Writing:

Swimming With The Sharks (Or Writing A Book): One of my mentors, runner and author extraordinaire, Ron Vitale, blogs about how writing is constantly a challenge, no matter your experience level, but how we do it anyway, because it’s what we believe in. Beautifully written!

On Freelancing:

How Freelancing Actually Makes Me Better With Money: Another smart post from Cordelia Calls It Quits…this time about how freelancing helps her manage her money better.

On PR:

BlackBerry Attempts a Comeback: PR pro Lauren Cox writes this smart and thoughtful post about BlackBerry’s attempt to stage a comeback and compete with Apple and Android. I will admit, sometimes I miss my BlackBerry (mostly the keyboard) but for the most part, I love my iPhone.

On Business:

Why Email Is Better Than Talking On The Phone: David Carlson, the writer behind the fantastic blog Young Adult Money explains why email is better than talking on the phone. I agree that sometimes phone is best (and more direct) but for the most part, I agree with with much of what David writes in this post.

The New 9-5’ers Guide to Office Lingo: This post by The Daily Muse made me giggle a little…when I first started working in the real world in 2010, my mind was boggled by all the silly phrases I heard around the office. This post outlines a few of the more common ones.

Goals

  • Enter the lottery for a spot in the iconic Broad Street Run! This year, instead of normal registration, the race has decided to utilize a lottery system. I definitely want to run this race again, so I’m crossing my fingers that I get lucky and win a spot!
  • Maintain balance this week between getting in a few solid workouts and also enjoying dinner’s out with friends. I have a busy week filled with social plans and I want to make good decisions about what I’m eating, but also have a great time.
  • Book my warm weekend winter getaway! My mom and I did a lot of research this week on destinations, and I think we’re going to go with a long weekend mother-daughter trip to Punta Cana. Stay tuned!
