Today, I’m participating in The Broke and Bookish’sweekly feature Top Ten Tuesday. Today’s topic is:
Top Ten Books That Have Been On My Shelf For The Longest But I’ve Never Read
When I saw the topic for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, I knew I had to join in. What book blogger DOESN’T have an overflowing bookshelf filled with fantastic stories that we simply just haven’t gotten around to yet? There are way more than 10 of these on my shelf, but here is a sampling of some of those awesome books that I swear I will get to one day!
1. Pretty In Plaid by Jen Lancaster: I’ve had this book for a few years now and keep meaning to read it because Jen Lancaster is hilarious, but just haven’t done so yet.
2. Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner: I feel like the worst Jennifer Weiner fan not having read this book yet even though I’m basically obsessed with her and her writing. I promise I’m going to read this one soon.
3. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah: I’ve really meant to read this for the last two summers at the beach, but it just hasn’t happened. Maybe Summer 2012?
4. The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger: Saw this in theaters and enjoyed the movie, but haven’t read the book yet.
5. Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan: I saw this book in the bookstore soon after I graduated college and wanted to read it, but just ended up purchasing it in a few months ago.
6. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: I KNOW. I am such a bad YA blogger. Even my 16 year old brother who doesn’t like reading has read this book…I’m going to get on it soon.
7. The Book of Tomorrow by Cecilia Ahern: Won this book in a giveaway sometime last year and it’s still sitting pretty on my shelf.
8. Citizen Girl by Emma McLaughin: This has been on my shelf forever…
9. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: Yeah, yeah…I know this book only came out a few months ago, but I’ve had it on my shelf for a few weeks now, and with all of the amazing reviews I’ve been reading for this book, a few weeks is far too long.
10. Dreamland by Sarah Dessen: I have a few Sarah Dessen books on my bookshelf, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever read anything by her before. If I did, it was pre-blogging and before I started keeping tracks of books I read.
What books are on your shelf, but you haven’t gotten around to reading yet?
I just died. How, how, how could you have not read The Hunger Games?! I honestly can’t wrap my head around it. Please read it ASAP. How soon is soon? Haha:) Great list.

My Top Ten 🙂
I’ll confess: The Hunger Games has been sitting on my shelf for long too. I really want to read it (and I plan to do it before the movie comes out) but my TBR list is so long … lol
The Hunger Games? You have to read these – especially with the movie coming out! I’ve also got The Book Of Tomorrow that I just haven’t got round to. Maybe tomorrow? The title just encourages me to wait! haha
Awesome list! 🙂
Here’s mine: http://crackaspinebookreviews.blogspot.com/2011/11/top-ten-tuesday-1.html
You could confess the other haven’t-yet-reads, but HUNGER GAMES? You are right…if you don’t read it soon, they’ll be pulling your YA reader card!
Here’s my Top Ten: Top Ten Books That Have Been on My Shelf the Longest But Never Read. I hope you will stop by and sign up for my November Giveaway, too. It’s a $25 Amazon gift card!
It took me forever to get to the Hunger Games too. I still haven’t read the rest of the trilogy. The movie looks awesome though so they’re moving up the pile.
My top ten is here if you’d like a look 🙂
HUNGER GAMES? JESS! HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol – loved the comments – I’m not going to say Hunger Games 🙂 I’m the opposite of you with The Time Travelers Wife – I read the book (so good) but didn’t see the movie.
The Hunger Game sounds so scary.
Here’s My Post
Oh Hunger Games! Read it! It’s awesome! Have you seen the trailer for the movie? I can’t wait!!
Mara Dyer is really good too!
My Top Ten Tuesday
I have only read two of Sarah Dessen’s books but have her whole collection on my shelf. I feel like such a bad blogger.
yes. stop everything. read Hunger Games right this instant. that is all.
I just put that Mara Dyer book on hold at the library, I’ve seen it floating around the internet and it looks interesting.
Still can’t believe you haven’t read Hunger Games. You will love it!!! You know you will!
Shame on you. Get on that Hunger Games!!!
Lol… Obviously you need to drop everything you are doing and read the Hunger Games. Actually, just try a few words and see if it doesn’t suck you right in!! (Can’t hurt, right?)
Stop. It. Hunger Games? I know you know but, well, you know? I really liked Dreamland. I really hated Time Traveler’s Wife.
You hate me now, don’t you.
THE HUNGER GAMES?!?!?!?!?! MARA?!?!?! Shame, Jessica! And you shamed me for ANNA! Haha you MUST read THG before the movie. Trust me, no matter how good the movie is, the books will be better 🙂
Do read The Hunger Games! The trilogy took me on a very intense adventure and I loved it, as I’m almost certain you will too. These books are so, so, so good.
I’m just going to reiterate my sentiments I shared on Twitter…GO READ THE HUNGER GAMES> NOWOWOWOWOWOWOOW. It BLEW ME AWAY.
Also, I have the same Jen Lancaster book on my shelf…and another one I think too. It’s been a while that I’ve owned them! MUST GET ON THAT.
Stop whatever it is you’re doing this moment and pick up The Hunger Games. You’d better buy the other two when you’re at the book store. And maybe book a few days off work.
OH MY GOODNESS, READ THE HUNGER GAMES NOW. AND Mara Dyer, for that matter.
That said, a LOT of your books aren’t on my list, but ARE on my actual shelves (or I’ve read them!) I definitely recommend Fly Away Home (love anything by Jennifer Weiner) and Firefly Lane was adorable. To be honest, I LIKED Dreamland, but it’s far and away my least favorite Dessen book, so if you’re just starting with her, trying This Lullaby or The Truth About Forever first! I also have The Time Traveller’s Wife, The Book of Tomorrow and Citizen Girl, all on my shelves, unread ^_^;
a friend was talking about Hunger Game the another day and how addictive it could be! will check it out when I’m done with The Girl Who Kicked Honest Neck.
I put off reading The Hunger Games for so long, if it weren’t for the movie I probably would not have read it yet. GET TO IT!
