*Note: I somehow skipped reviewing the fourth book in this series, Unbelievable. You can see the rest of my PLL reviews here.
Wicked by Sara Shepard, the fifth installment of the mysterious Pretty Little Liars series continues the story of Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer and their quest to find out who killed their best friend Ali, and who’s been sending them eerie text messages.
Our girls have all grown up a little since their traumatic fall. It’s now winter and the four girls rest easy knowing that Ian is in jail. Their lives go back to normal….well, as normal as Rosewood can be.
Hanna won’t stop at anything to get her popularity back; even if it means joining forces with her evil stepsister, Kate. Aria meets a new guy, but is shocked when he shows up at her house to go on a date with her mom. Emily is wrapped up in her new boyfriend and Spencer is in shock when her parents completely turn their backs on her. Okay, so life isn’t completely normal.
When Ian is released from jail, the girls start receiving mysterious messages from “A” and once again, all hell breaks loose.
Another great Pretty Little Liars that had me sucked in from beginning to end.
I love watching these characters grow and develop. I think Shepard does an amazing job making each girl an individual with their own personalities and quirks. I especially like how Shepard makes each girl relatable at some points in the book, but also makes them irritating at other points. As I’m reading, Shepard really makes me FEEL things for these girls-whether it’s liking them, or hating them.
The suspense is definitely still there, although I’m starting to feel like maybe this series is dragging on a bit too long. I enjoy that with every twist and turn, there’s a new clue or a new plot, but eventually the round and round has to to end, and we need some kind of conclusion. I know there are a few books left and I hope that the conclusion is coming soon; I’m confident that something big is coming our way.
