Bookish Websites: Goodreads

So, I know I’m about a billion years behind in the book blogging world since I’m JUST discovering Goodreads, but better late than never, right?

It’s not that I haven’t heard about it before; it’s just that I was all, “Ughhhhh, ANOTHER site to have to remember to update and confirm friends and interact on….blah blah blah.” But then I saw this post that Kari wrote awhile back that I had starred in my Google Reader and I was inspired to check it out.

As Kari mentions, the site has SO many awesome features. My favorite feature so far is ‘Lists.’ I find it especially useful to check out when new books are coming out and it’s perfect to help me find great new books to feature for Waiting On Wednesday.

I’m also planning on cross-posting my reviews to Goodreads. Do many of you find that to be useful?

The other aspect of Goodreads I’m most excited about is keeping track of my To Be Read list through the site. Currently, I have a pretty long word document full of titles and authors. Kind of old school, I know.

So you see that handy button to your right that says: Check out my Goodreads? Yeah. You should do that. If you’re on Goodreads, add me as a friend. I promise my profile will be a lot more interesting and exciting to look at within the next few days. I plan to take some time to fully explore the site, start rating books, maybe check out some groups and get the ball rolling on cross-posting some reviews!

What other bookish websites do you love to use? Let’s discuss in the comments. Hopefully, we’ll all find another great site to check out!

  1. I love Goodreads!

Other great bookish sites are Paperback Swap and Booksale Finder. Paperback Swap lets you exchange books you don’t need with books you might want from other users around the country. Booksale Finder is kind of hard to navigate, but you can search for used book sales in your area and even sign up for email alerts!

    1. Thanks for the other tips! Booksale Finder sounds awesome as I LOVE book sales and usually can find great titles.

  2. I love Goodreads, too! Like you, I was skeptical about joining another networking site… even if this one is centered around books. I’m already a member of LibraryThing and I love that one, too, though I use it in a very different way than Goodreads! My wishlists and to-be-read stacks are maintained on GR, and my past reads, archives and current reads are all on LT. It’s a little weird, but the system has worked for me thus far.

    1. Awesome! I definitely think its useful even if that’s your only purpose for using it. I currently keep a word document like I mentioned above, but this is more fun 🙂
