Can you believe we are already six whole months into 2010? I surely can’t. Now that we’re halfway through the year, it’s time to revisit my 2010 goals and check out my progress.
Reading Goals:
1. Read 85 books this year.
So far this year, I’ve read 48 books, so I’m on track to reach my goal as long as I keep reading, reading, reading!
2. Branch out of my usual genres of Chicklit and YA and try some other types of books.
Can’t say I’ve really done this, but I’ve also sort of decided that I should stick to reading what I enjoy. I’ve read a few memoirs and a few self-help/professional books so that is definitely outside of my usual genre. I’d say this is half a success so far!
3. Write a book review for at least 70 out of those 85 books.
I’ve written 33 book reviews so far this year. I won’t be making this goal. I’ve chosen not to review some books that are series (Princess Diaries, A List) so this is probably why my review count is lower than my books read count.
4. Keep utilizing my library, but also try to purchase more books from the bookstore and from book sales.
Yes! This has definitely been a success. I have found some great deals at thrift stores and book sales.
Writing Goals:
1. Work on the novel for at least 2 hours a week.
Yeah right. Unfortunately, I have not stayed true to this simple goal. I need to make this much more of a priority if I want to publish a book.
2. Find new avenues to write in: guest blogs, freelance pieces, fiction, poetry, journaling.
I want to focus on this more in the coming months. I haven’t been doing as much outside writing and I would like to continue. Anyone need a guest blogger?!
3. Keep finding and reading great resources about writing to improve my writing even more.
Oh yes. I’ve found a ton of amazing books and blogs about writing and publishing.
4. Complete a creative writing course.
Check! I really enjoyed my creative writing class and I learned a ton.
Blogging Goals:
1. Continue posting at least 5 times a week.
I think I’ve been doing a job keeping up with content on this blog. I try to post 5-6 times a week.
2. Increase the amount of writing-related content on the blog.
With the creative writing class, I shared some of my class exercises, but I haven’t done anything lately. I’m going to start doing more posts on the writing process and publishing.
3. Participate in more blog contests, swaps, memes and challenges.
I participated in my first blog tour this past winter and I helped a debut author with PR. I still do It’s Monday What Are You Reading and Waiting on Wednesday each week, so I’m definitely keeping up with popular memes.
4. Connect and create relationships with more book bloggers!
Check and check!

I would love to collaborate with you to possibly make this a reality. My blog is relatively new and I was hoping that maybe including some guest posts would be a good idea to encourage new readers to come on over!
