Pretty Little Liars: TV vs. Book?

I can’t believe I’ve never read or been recommended to read the Pretty Little Liars series. It’s seriously right up my alley. I love young adult books that have a little mystery twist (perfect example of why I’m obsessed with the Private series by Kate Brian)

I really only first heard about Pretty Little Liars in TV commericals and made a mental note to watch the show. Then I picked up the first book in the series last week in a thrift shop and added it to my to be read list.

I just caught the show on Hulu and oh my goodness, I think I’ve found another fabulous show to add to the list. I became completely engrossed in Aria’s world and the 45 minute premiere flew by in what felt like minutes.

I absolutely HATE watching a TV show or movie BEFORE reading the book, but this time, I didn’t really have an option. I’ve read on a few of my favorite book blogs that the show seemed to be pretty close to accurate to the book. That’s good news, but I’m definitely going to start the book ASAP- probably today.

I’m definitely excited for the rest of this season though!

Have you read the book or caught the first episode of the new TV show Pretty Little Liars? What did you think? TV vs. book?

  1. Haven't heard about the book/TV series, so I'll have to check it out. Thanks for letting me know about them.♥

  2. I had read up until book 6 when I saw PLL's pilot on TV.It's true, the show IS pretty close to the books. However, there were some terrible casting choices,in my opinion,as it's so often the case with book adaptations.

  3. I was curious about this as well. I too haven't read the books (just purchased the first one this week) but I did happen to catch the pilot last week. I'm kind of torn though. :/

As much as I love reading something before watching the movie/tv adaptation, I found that this show is just so filled with secrets and mystery and I kind of don't know if I want to kill the excitement of finding out the truth in

the show by reading the novels. Then again, I don't think I can hold off on reading the books because I've heard such good things haha.

I haven't read the books, but caught the Season Premiere. It definitely intrigued me. It reminded me a little of the first eps of Veronica Mars. Looking forward to seeing what's going to happen.

  5. I remember seeing a couple reviews of the books a little while ago and they definitely caught my eye and interested me, but the show has really caught me. I loved the season premiere and look forward to watching more episodes. The cast seems to be really well picked. And now I'm definitely interested in going out and giving the series a shot. After all, I am on the market for a new series to dig into.
