Book Review: Peace Love & Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle

Peace Love & Baby Ducks
Author: Lauren Myracle

ISBN: 9780525477433

Peace Love & Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle tells the story of two sisters. Carly is a year older than Anna, but they have always been best friends. Carly feels this need to always take care of Anna and make sure that she is protected.

Carly is a sophomore in high school and her sister is a freshman. Over the summer, Anna transformed into a “hot” young woman and Carly struggles with her sister’s new found beauty. Guys at school think Anna is hot and girls want to be her friend. Carly struggles with Anna’s popularity.

Of course, there is a love triangle. Carly has the biggest crush on Cole, the new guy. However, she can’t see that her best guy friend Roger is completely in love with her. Anna has to help her sister to find out which guy is right for her.

At the core of it, this is the story of two sisters and best friends. This story takes a realistic look into the life of two teenage girls trying to get through high school while still maintaining their close relationship.

I LOVED this book! I have a younger sister (4 years younger) so I could relate to some of the emotions in this book. I loved the interactions between the two sisters and I could really FEEL the jealousy and anger that Carly felt because of her younger sister Anna.

I loved how the book was broken into three sections (Peace, Love and Baby Ducks..just like the title) with appropriate events taking place in each section. I thought this was a clever way for Myracle to tell the story.

Carly is a wonderful narrator. The things she say are so realistic and true to life. I completely relate to her and want to learn more of her story. I would love to see a book written from Anna’s perspective now that I’ve gotten to know Carly so well.

Sequel please?!

4.5/5
