Book Review: A Match Made In High School by Kristin Walker

A Match Made In High School
Author: Kristin Walker
ISBN: 9781595142573

A Match Made In High School by debut author Kristin Walker tells the story of Fiona, a high school senior who must take a mandatory marriage course in order to graduate.

The idea of the class is to pair each senior with another senior, force them to participate in activities together and work a job together. All of the seniors are outraged at this new graduation requirement, but Fiona, also known as Fee at least hopes that she’ll get paired with her crush of many years, Gabe Webber.

No such luck. Fiona is paired with jock and jerk Todd Harding. To make matters worse, Todd’s obnoxious girlfriend Amanda is paired with Gabe. Fiona’s best friend Marcie is paired with the goofy Johnny Mercer. Throughout the story, Fiona and Todd must learn to cooperate and deal with each other..only the way they do this is through a series of hilarious pranks.

I loved this book! I’ve had the honor of working with author Kristin Walker over the past month to help promote this book (but before that it was on my To Be Read list!) and I was so pleased when I loved the book just as much as I thought I would.

The characters in the story are so real. There is a Todd Harding at every school..I’m sure you can remember who that person was at your high school. Fiona reminds me of just an ordinary girl (not much different than myself) in high school just trying to get by and have a little fun along the way. She wasn’t really part of any crowd, but she managed.

The thing that surprised me about this book (that not many young adult or “chick lit” books possess) is how funny it was-laugh out loud funny! The pranks and the witty banter between Fiona and Todd will definitely have you giggling as you read.

However, even though the book was hilarious, it also had several sweet and meaningful moments.

The side stories in the book like between Fiona and her best friend and Fiona and classmate Johnny Mercer just add to the charm of the story.

Kristin Walker is an extremely talented debut author…sequel please?!

5/5
