Book Review: Charmed Thirds by Megan McCafferty

Charmed Thirds
Author: Megan McCafferty
ISBN: 9781400080434

Charmed Thirds by Megan McCafferty is the third book in the wonderful Jessica Darling series. Book three opens the summer after Jessica’s freshman year at Columbia University.

We’re introduced to a whole new cast of characters since Jessica has a new group of college friends who are just as quirky as her. Jessica is still with Marcus, though she does not get to see him as much as she would like because he lives in California.

Jessica lands at an internship at a hip NY magazine. She can’t wait to test out her writing skills but she is sorely disappointed by the magazine.

Oh, and then there’s Marcus. Lovely, lovely Marcus. He is cryptic and confusing as ever, but he is still lovable. Though there is a time Jessica is not with Marcus, we all know that he will always be somewhere in Jessica’s life.

The book follows Jessica through three years of college. I’m always amazed that McCafferty can fit SO much time into one book. We see Jessica through heartbreak, new loves, random jobs, a crazy internship and much, much more.

When I first heard about the series, I assumed it was just another young adult series (not that I mind that!) but I never expected it to be so deep. I’m surprised by every book because Jessica has grown so much physically and mentally!

Jessica has become such a confident and sassy young lady and I never would have expected this after reading book 1.

Can’t wait to read the next one.

  1. Marcus! If only he were real! I love how Megan McCafferty makes Jess go through so much.. you won't believe all the stuff that happens in the fourth book. ((and Fourth Comings is surprisingly short!)Have you ever read the Ruby Oliver series by E. Lockhart?
