It’s pretty clear that most writers aren’t raking in millions of dollars a year (unless your Dan Brown, Nicholas Sparks, or James Patterson, that is). With that said, many writers most likely have other jobs besides writing.
I’m wondering, how do you balance your time to include writing and doing everything else you need to do?
With a new semester beginning today (senior year of college!), taking 5 classes, being president of PRSSA, having an internship and helping to run sorority recruitment, this girl doesn’t have a lot of free time on her hands to sleep or have a social life, let alone write.
Of course, I’m not the only busy one out there…writers can be full-time employees, students, mothers, fathers, etc. I know that these people must make writing a priority no matter how tired, hungry, restless they are.
It’s going to be difficult for me to do, but I’m going to try to set aside a specific amount of time each day to write. I’m not sure when yet, or how this is going to work, but I want to do it.
How do you do it? How do you balance your time to make writing a priority?
You should get in touch with Danny Evans at dadgonemad.com if you don't already read his blog. He was a regular old blogger who wrote a book that just got published. And I hear it's fantastic, I haven't gotten to it yet, unfortunately.
I have often wondered the same thing. I think self discipline is the key. Which, I, of course have very little. 🙁
I think that making it a priority is really important. I do my best work in the morning so I am going to try and set aside a half an hour every morning to just write!
Utilizing weekend time is probably a good idea too. It can definitely be hard when you're busy, busy though!
I've been wondering the same thing of late. My roles include mom, wife, full time employee, friend, Prez elect of a local professional association, and the list goes on.
I do actually schedule in my writing time, much like my work out and my dentist appointments. If I don't schedule it and use some "do not disturb" techniques, I'll never do it.
