Book Review: Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers

Cracked Up To Be

Author: Courtney Summers

ISBN: 9780312383695

Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers tells the story of “Perfect” Parker Fadley, a high school student who cracks under the pressures of attaining the perfect grades, friends, and boyfriends.

The story of the situation that actually caused Parker to crack is told throughout the story that’s being told in the present in italics. Slowly, but surely throughout the novel, we learn what happened that made Parker’s whole persona change in an instant.

Honestly, my summary of the novel is only two paragraphs long because literally no action took place in the story. I felt like I was reading page after page of Parker complaining about her life, going to meet with her guidance counselor and disappointing her family and ex-friends.

This was definitely a quick read, but it was a bit painful to get through.

  1. I'm sorry you were disappointed 🙁 I can definitely see where you're coming from — so little actually takes place in the book. But somehow I loved it! I read it in one night last fall. Hope your next read is better! 🙂

  2. Wow, I must say I'm quite surprised since everyone has been praising this book. I bought it a while ago and it should be fun to see what I make of it. 🙂
