The time has come (already!) for me to register for my spring courses. This is the last time I will ever register for classes, as I graduate in May.
I’ve always wanted to take a creative writing course, but didn’t making up various excuses including:
1. I don’t have time! I need to get my requirements out of the way.
2. When will I write a novel with all the other courses I have to take? This is just not realistic…
3. But, but, but…then others will actually get to read my work, and I’ll actually have to write!
Well, it seems…none of these excuses are valid anymore.
1. I’m done with my requirements. Next year, I have one measly PR class and then 4 random electives…shouldn’t one of them be creative writing?
2. I’ll make the time to write because, hey, remember Jess? It’s your goal..
3. Yes, yes, you will.
I’m still struggling to decide if I actually want to take this course. I’m really nervous and I don’t know if I’d be able to write under the pressure of a class atmosphere. I don’t know if I’m ready, but if not now, when will I ever be ready?
What are your thoughts on creative writing classes? Have you ever taken one? Was it helpful?
I haven't ever taken one but I kind of regret that now. I bet you'll learn a lot in it! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
TAKE IT! I graduated five years ago and really regret not taking stuff like this. I have thought about picking up a class at a community college now, but it's not the same.
Can't wait to hear what you decide to do!
I say take it! I took an intro to creative nonfiction writing class and an intro to poetry writing class in college (the former when I thought I waned to minor in journalism, the latter for my art credit!), and I was terrified of workshopping. But it's actually really helpful, and no one is super-mean or anything. 🙂
take it! Even if it turns out not as helpful as you like, it definitely isn't going to hurt you. You worry too much =)
I took a creative writing class my senior year of high school…it definetely gets your creative juices flowing! And even if the class isn't great, it at least forces you to write!
You should take it! I've never taken one before besides a module at uni, and that was quite helpful.
