Start Your Week Right Sunday: Links and Goals

Start your week right! Every Sunday I post my favorite links from around the web and share my goals for the upcoming week.

Links

On Careers:

Entrepreneur: Can’t Work From Home? I Quit!: After Yahoo announced that starting in June, all employees must work from the physical office, PR pro and social media rockstar Sarah Evans wrote this fantastic op/ed for HLN about why she thinks this isn’t the smartest move. On a similar topic, one of my favorite PR professionals, Gini Deitrich, re-writes the letter HR sent to Yahoo employees the way she thinks it should have/would have been written had communications been consulted.

Dealing With Work Burnout: Feeling burned out at work? Chrysta Bairre from Live, Love, Work explains some of the major causes of burnout and shares great tips to avoid it before it happens.

On SEO:

Eleven Steps for Setting Up and Using the Yoast SEO Plugin: Want to learn more about SEO? This post by Gini Deitrich breaks down the plugin, Yoast, that I’ve been using for the past few months. I learned A TON from this post and Gini’s screenshots make it super simple to follow.

On Freelancing:

The No-Nonsense Guide to Getting Paid For Your Expertise: Freelancers- this post is a MUST-READ. Amber Naslund explains six steps for moving from giving free advice to getting paid for your time and expertise.

On Blogging:

Seven Ways Writers Can Build Online Authority With Google+: Another fantastic piece from Demian Farnworth of CopyBlogger about AuthorRank, Google+ and ways writers can build authority using the social network.

On Life:

Things That Are Simultaneously Reassuring + Depressing- Life is a Numbers Game: Sigh. This post about life being a numbers game by blogger Sarah Von Bargen is so incredibly relatable.

Goals

  • Create my Broad Street Run training plan…last week was a bit crazy with family stuff after my grandmother passed away (thank you all for the kind words on my tribute to her here), and needless to say, my goals all went out the window. This week, I’d like to try to get back on track with my running and come up with a solid plan to prepare for May.
  • Pack for vacation (leaving for my birthday trip to Punta Cana later this week!) and enjoy a relaxing, disconnected and much-needed trip to the land of sand, sun and fruity drinks.

Have any links or goals you’d like to share? Leave them in the comments!
