Jennifer Weiner and Jodi Picoult Discuss The NY Times Book Review Section

Did any of you catch this Huffington Post interview with Jennifer Weiner and Jodi Picoult?

For those who follow Weiner on Twitter or have heard her speak, she often discusses the fact that the NY Times Book Review section L-O-V-E-S white, male authors. Women writers, especially those whose books are designated “chick lit” or beach reads are shunned from the pages of the oh-so-sacred NY Times.

This is an interesting interview with both Weiner and Picoult about who makes the NY Times book section and why.

One interesting point brought up was that men who are writing the equivalent of “women’s fiction” (ie: books about relationships, family, etc.) are featured in the NY Times. It seems to be something against women writers.

What are your thoughts? Are Weiner and Picoult right? Does the NY Times have something against female writers?
