Today’s question is: Do you think any current author is of the same caliber as Dickens, Austen, Bronte, or any of the classic authors? If so, who, and why do you think so? If not, why not? What books from this era might be read 100 years from now?
Honestly, this question is difficult for me to answer because I’ve never really been a fan of those classic authors.
My favorite books now are books that I will pass down to my children (especially teenage girls). I think that a lot of the books I’ve read by authors like Megan McCafferty, Meg Cabot and Jennifer Weiner all discuss REAL issues that REAL young women/women face and I think that’s worthy of being passed down. Some books I’ve read have shaped the way I see and react to the world.
With that said, the most “mainstream” or “classic of today” book that I think will be read 100 years from now is without a doubt, Harry Potter. I think J.K. Rowling’s series will be read for years and years to come. The books are wonderful and definitely timeless.

I haven't read any of Meg Cabot, but Harry Potter should definitely be around 100 years from now. Here's my link: http://thecrowdedleaf.wordpress.com/
This is a hard question because the criteria for what one calls a classic is different among people. Another reason its difficult is because it blurs the line between popularity and great literature. I do think certain current authors should and will be remembered, but it doesn't mean they are classics, IMO.
It is extremely interesting for me to read the blog. Thank you for it. I like such themes and anything connected to this matter. I definitely want to read a bit more soon.
