Book Review: Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham

Holly’s Inbox
Author: Holly Denham
ISBN: 9781402219030

Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham lets readers take a peek into British Holly’s e-mail inbox. In the beginning of the book, Holly has just taken a job as a receptionist at a company based in London. We are introduced to an interesting cast of characters: her co-worker Trish, the sexy vice president James, her gay best friend Jason, her man-loving friend Aisha and an array of other intriguing and quirky friends.

The book is written entirely through e-mails which is exciting because you get an insider view of Holly’s personal life. After starting her new job, Holly is learning her way around the office, making friends with her co-workers and is asked out on a date with the sexy James.

Everything seems to be going right until James suddenly dumps her. When an old boyfriend from her past takes a job at her company, Holly is worried and anxious. She starts getting in trouble at work and from there, everything starts going downhill and Holly is afraid that everyone will find out her big secret.

While this book was a quick read due to the nature of e-mails being quite short, it somehow took me forever to actually get into it. I felt like I was halfway through the book before I noticed any type of conflict.

I loved being privy to Holly’s personal thoughts and correspondence with friends, but I found that I was missing the description that comes with a regular novel. Instead of being “present” on a date with Holly and James, I was briefed through an e-mail to James about what happened. No details.

Though I didn’t love the style of the book, I absolutely love reading books with a British main character. I love hearing the way they speak and the way they write. Holly is no exception.

Overall, this wasn’t one of my favorite books.
