Monthly Check-In: Goodbye October, Hello November

Monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
October in review: Beautiful Savannah, Georgia, meeting my mentor Jason Mollica in person for the first time, attending the PRSA Conference and enjoying gorgeous fall weather and scenery right here in the Philadelphia area.

Each month, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In October, I…

1. Traveled to a Savannah for a girls getaway with my mom. My mom and I are making it a yearly tradition to travel together, so this fall we decided to head South. We’ve both always been curious about Savannah, so we planned a trip and spent a long weekend in this charming city. We spent much of our trip walking around the city, learning about its history and taking few different walking/trolley tours, along with a spooky nighttime ghost tour! We explored River Street and even spent a day on Tybee Island. I quickly fell in love with this beautiful city, the friendly people and the amazing Southern hospitality. I will definitely be back!

2. Attended the PRSA International Conference. This year, Philadelphia was incredibly lucky to host the PRSA International Conference (a conference for public relations professionals). Because the conference was so close, I was able to attend. I learned a ton in the sessions, but learned even more networking and having one-on-one conversations with other professionals outside of the sessions. My favorite part of the entire weekend was the opportunity to finally meet my mentor Jason Mollica after years of talking online. It was also really special to have my little sister Jamie attending the PRSSA Conference (conference for public relations students) across the street, so we crossed paths during a few of the general sessions.

3. Celebrated my blog’s one year anniversary. I had a blast celebrating my blog’s one year anniversary last month! To celebrate, I asked you to submit your freelancing questions and compiled all the answers into a two-part e-newsletter exclusive to my email community. If you missed out, subscribe to my e-newsletter, shoot me an email letting me know and I’ll send you back all the freelancing Q&As! In honor of my blog’s anniversary, I also modeled in my first blog photo shoot with the talented Stephanie. I just received all of the photos and can’t wait to start sharing them on the blog!

In November, I will…

1. Travel to Huntsville, Alabama for the Social Media Tourism Symposium. Since I’m writing this post on November 9, I’ve already returned from the Social Media Tourism Symposium in Alabama, so more on that next month! But as a preview, this is the second year I’ve had the awesome opportunity to attend this social media and tourism focused conference. This year, the conference was in Alabama, so I headed back down South for a few days of learning and networking.

2. Run my 13th race of 2013. Last year I set and accomplished a goal to run 12 races in 2012. I wanted to continue the trend this year, completing 13 races in 2013. Later this month, I’ll run my 13th race of the year, when I complete the Gobble Wobble 5K on Thanksgiving morning. As I’ve become more interested in yoga, running has taken a bit of a backseat, so I’m happy to finish this goal strong and continue improving my running, while also trying out other types of exercise. Who knows? Maybe I’ll continue this goal and shoot for 14 races in 2014!

3. Host a PR Twitter chat and speak to three different university groups. I was super honored when I was asked to host #PRStudChat, a Twitter chat for PR students, professionals and educators. The one-hour chat on 11/12 (this Tuesday!) at 8:30 p.m. EST will focus on personal branding. If you’re free, I’d love for you to join in! You can find out more about the chat here. I love giving back to students by speaking and sharing my experiences, and this month, I have the great opportunity to speak to three different PR and social media related university classes and groups. In the next few weeks, I’ll be speaking at Rowan University and Temple University about public relations, social media and personal branding.
