Ring, Ring, It’s Me Calling: Time for a Phone Date

phone date- Jessica LawlorI know it’s weird and maybe even a little bit “uncool” for those in my age group who prefer texting and snapping (both of which I definitely enjoy), but I LOVE talking on the phone.

Yeah, I don’t love talking on the phone to make appointments or reservations or even for most business communication that can be handled more quickly in other ways, but I do love chatting with my friends on the phone.

I talk to my two best friends on the phone at least once a day, if not more. Seriously.

Oh, but I still hate voicemails. Please don’t ever leave me one 😉

(Side note: does anyone LIKE listening to voicemails?)

Anyway, back to phone chats. Instead of a coffee date today, let’s pretend we’re on the phone together.

Here are all the random little life tidbits I’d share with you if we settled in for a phone chat.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you about my blog photo shoot last weekend. I partnered up with the fabulous Chrystina Noel and we spent the afternoon running around the city taking pictures. She already sent me a contact sheet with more than 200 photos, so now I need to narrow that down to around 50 for her to edit and touch up. I’m really happy with how the photos came out! I wasn’t feeling my best that day and didn’t really feel like getting dolled up, but I’m so glad I did. Chrystina picked two awesome photo locations: Front Street Cafe in Fishtown and Race Street Pier. Pictures to come soon! (But here’s a sneak preview of one of my favorites)

If we were chatting on the phone…we’d definitely talk about my business. I’m in my fourth month of solopreneurship and loving it! I’d tell you about how the other day I looked up from my computer at 7 p.m. at Corner Bakery Cafe and just had this moment of, “Wait, is this really my life? Do I really get to do what I love?” In that moment, I felt so grateful and lucky. Of course, not every day is easy, but those moments far outshine the difficult ones. Sometimes I have to pinch myself that this is actually my life and I really get to do this. It’s an amazing feeling.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you how relieved I feel to have finally launched Personal Branding Bootcamp and my personal branding checklist. I’m so happy with how the designed checklist came out- my designer Brigette Indelicato did an amazing job, as usual! I’d tell you that the launch was a bit quieter than I had hoped, but I know this is the type of product/service that people need time to think about. I’m hoping that sending out the checklist to my email community is getting people thinking more about personal branding and that down the line, they’ll want to step up their game and reach out to me for a session.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you about how I’m excited for my first summer as a solopreneur! I’m planning to revamp my daily schedule to wake up a little earlier in the morning during the summer months to get the bulk of my work done before noon or 1 p.m. each day to keep my afternoons free for adventures. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to run my own business: to have more schedule flexibility and get to live more life and take advantage of beautiful days. Of course, my business is my main priority, so I’m sure there will be afternoons spent working from time to time, but I am really hoping to be able to take advantage of being my own boss this summer.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you about how I am counting down the days until July. If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know that Ocean City, New Jersey is my favorite place on earth. This summer, my family rented a condo there for the entire MONTH of July, and thanks to my new, flexible work schedule and career, I’m planning on living there most of the month with the exception of coming back and forth to teach my weekly yoga classes. I can already envision my days: early morning runs on the boardwalk, grabbing coffee at OCNJ Coffee Company, yoga classes at Golden Buddha Yoga, working from the condo in the morning and spending afternoons on the beach. I’d tell you how lucky I feel that THIS is my life now; a year ago, I couldn’t have ever imagined that this would be my reality.

If we were chatting on the phone…we’d definitely dish about the season premiere of The Bachelorette. I can’t get enough of the Bachelor franchise. I’d tell you about how me and my best friend Kelsie took the premiere very seriously, even taking NOTES to fill out our Bachelorette Brackets immediately after the episode aired. However, once I filled out my bracket, I turned right to Reality Steve and read all the spoilers. I can’t get through a whole season without knowing what happens at the end. I’d ask what you are watching on TV right now and I’d also probably gush about how I can’t wait until Big Brother comes back this summer! Also, while we were on the topic of TV, I’d definitely ask you if you watched the season finale of Jane The Virgin…because OH MY GOD.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you that my ONE YEAR anniversary of becoming a yoga teacher is coming up in June. How is it possible that I’ve already been teaching for an entire year?! Over the past month or so, I’ve gotten some really positive feedback about my classes. If we were on the phone, I’d probably squeal and tell you about how a student told me I’m their favorite teacher (EEEEEKS!) I know I shouldn’t let feedback like that validate me or my teaching in any way, but it definitely made me feel all warm and fuzzy…and again, just reminded me of my WHY.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d complain a bit about my apartment search. I started the search in April and found a place I absolutely love, but it slightly out of my price range. I’ve been grappling with if it’s worth it to pay a bit more for a place I’m almost positive is a great fit for me or if I should hold out for something a little bit more in my price range. Despite the annoying nature of apartment hunting, I’d also tell you about how much I’m looking forward to having my own space and exploring a new area. It’s going to be an adventure, that’s for sure!

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you that I’ve meditated every single day for almost 50 days! It’s definitely a habit at this point and I am LOVING the effects I’m feeling in my mind and body. I’d encourage you to download the Calm app if you haven’t already, because it makes meditating extremely accessible, and also educational. I love the free Daily Calm meditations and am learning so much. I’d tell you about how I’m considering a meditation training so that I can teach others how to meditate! I think this will be a really nice complement to my yoga teaching.

If we were chatting on the phone…I’d tell you to check out my Instagram. If you don’t follow me on Instagram yet, some random Insta moments to share: I had a blog photo shoot, launched my personal branding checklist, celebrated my friend Rachel’s bachelorette party, hung out in beautiful, charming Bethlehem and figured out a new yoga pose- chin stand!

Okay, your turn! What would you tell me if we were chatting on the phone? Let me know in the comments below!
