Monthly Check-In: Goodbye July, Hello August

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
July in review: Enjoying lots of beach time in OCNJ, delicious ice cream from Sprinkles on warm summer nights, celebrating Jamie’s 22nd birthday and a little bit of yoga everywhere I go.

Each month, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In July, I…

1. Went on a mini-vacation to OCNJ. Five days in Ocean City is too short, but better than nothing! In mid-July, my family and I packed up two cars and headed to our favorite place in the entire world- Ocean City, New Jersey. In total, between two houses and four different families, there were about 20 of us taking over the beach each day. We enjoyed sunny beach days, delicious drinks, amazing food, nights spent playing games (Heads Up, anyone?!) and mornings running and biking on the boardwalk. My personal version of heaven on earth. I even had the chance to meet my blogger friend Caitlyn, so that was awesome!

2. Completely overhauled my blog’s main pages. My blog to-do list is ever-growing and in July, I finally buckled down to revamp my About Page. While I was doing that, I realized all my pages (Meet Jessica, Get Gutsy, Work With Me) needed serious attention and decided to completely edit all of my blog’s main content. I also added a brand new page featuring testimonials from the community, along with my clients. I detailed the process in this post about how you can create an amazing About Page too. I’m thrilled with the result and know these pages are living, breathing documents, but feel really happy about how well they currently reflect me and the Get Gutsy brand. Check it off the list!

3. Took on a new leadership role at Temple University. I’m very excited and honored to share that in July, I was nominated president of the newly-formed Temple University Women’s Network. The group began to take shape in May when a small group of Temple women came together to launch a brand new alumni association for female alumnae. We held a kickoff event in June and last month began electing leadership. I’m SO excited to be part of the founding of this much-needed and sure-to-be amazing group to keep Temple women connected to the university and one another.

In August, I will…

1. Complete my 100th hot yoga class. If you’ve been reading the blog for more than five minutes, you likely know that I’m completely obsessed with yoga- specifically, hot yoga. In less than a year, as of this month, I will have completed more than 100 hot yoga classes! (Yes, I kept track). I’m really proud of this accomplishment and can’t wait to see where the next 100 will take my practice. Stay tuned later this month for an epic post about all that yoga has taught me and how it has changed my life for the better.

2. Attend three super fun events that I’ve been looking forward to for months. I’ve been excited for August for months because my social calendar is filled with fun events! First up, I’ll be rocking out at the Gavin DeGraw concert with my friend Rachel. I’ve seen Gavin perform a bunch of times and he’s incredible live. Next, I’ll be attending the Philadelphia Geek Awards, an awesome event here in Philly that recognizes geeky people doing amazing things in the city of brotherly love. Finally, I’ll close out summer with my lovely friend Stephanie’s annual Diner En Blanc. Dress code: all white-attire, fun hats and accessories encouraged. Last year, I wore a fun flower in my hair- this year, I want to find an awesome fascinator, British royalty style.

3. Get started on a blog project I’ve put off for awhile. Another item on my blogging to-do list is finally compiling all of those amazing stories many of you wrote for the Get Gutsy essay contest back in January and putting them into a free ebook. I’ve found a designer I’m excited to work with and hope to have this ebook ready for you this fall! I can’t wait to start on this project and start thinking about and brainstorming for Get Gutsy Week 2015! If you have any ideas, I’m all ears!
