It’s All Been Said Before- But It Hasn’t Been Said By YOU

it's all been said before-Jessica LawlorWhen people tell me they want to start a blog but haven’t done so yet, there are usually three things holding them back:

1. Not knowing what to write about and the fear of losing interest quickly.

2. Lack of knowledge of actually (technically) creating a blog and running a website.

3. Getting lost in a sea of sameness- repeating the same things that have been said over and over again by countless others.

All completely valid reasons and fears- many of the same fears I once had before I started blogging.

Today, I want to address reason #3.

I hear would-be bloggers say things like:

“I have nothing new to contribute to the conversation.”

“There are already too many blogs out there.”

“It’s all been said before.”

To that, I say:

It’s all been said before- but it hasn’t been said by YOU. (Tweet this)

Whether you realize it or not, your voice is important.

I’m constantly amazed by the emails I get from readers who can relate to something I’ve written.

I *know* people read my blog because I see the numbers and social shares, but every time I get a personal email or heartfelt comment letting me know that something I’ve written touched someone’s life- that makes all the difference.

It doesn’t matter if it’s one email or 20 emails. It’s all the same.

When someone takes the time out of their day to comment on something you’ve written, that feels amazing. It reminds me of why I do what I do- why I write when so many other people are writing on the same topics.

This is why I always encourage bloggers and would-be bloggers to push through the slumps.

Because your words matter- your words make a difference.

Don’t get me wrong. Those emails and comments don’t come overnight. It takes time to build an audience; it takes time to grow and nurture a community.

And that’s the period where many bloggers get frustrated and give up. But please- hang on.

Whether your audience is thousands strong or consists of five loyal readers, it doesn’t matter. Those five loyal readers want to hear from YOU because they trust and value your opinion and insights.

Your unique spin on a topic might be exactly what someone needs to hear in this moment.

Why rob the world of that?

Don’t let the fear of being another voice in an over-saturated blogosphere hold you back from starting something amazing.

As Pat Flynn said in his Smart Passive Income podcast (episode 97-worth a listen!), “You are the only you.”

The next time you feel like you have nothing original to say or you’re writing something you’ve read on hundreds of other blogs, remember that simple saying: You are the only you.

Have you ever experienced this frustration as a blogger? How have you pushed through?
