Start your week right! Every Sunday I post my favorite links from around the web and share my goals for the upcoming week.

Links

On Careers:

Why Women Apologize More- And What That Means For Their Careers:  I can totally relate to Meredith Lepore, the author of this Brazen Careerist post. I apologize WAY too much. She explains why women need to stop apologizing because of how it can impact their careers.

On Building a Business:

Implementing Structure & Scope: Melissa Anzman explains why creating a client agreement of work is so important when building a business and why entrepreneurs need to stop thinking like freelancers and start thinking like biz owners.

On Launching a Book:

What Happened When I Asked You to Vote on a Kindle Cover (And Why I Love Google Forms): The super smart and inspirational Alexis Grant’s first Kindle book, “You Deserve To Love Your Job,” comes out later this week. (I had the chance to read it early and I LOVED it.) This post about how Lexi’s audience helped decide the cover of her book truly reminds me of the power of listening to your readers.

On Photography:

How to Pull Off a Great Headshot for Social Media: Are you still cropping your face out of a group picture for your social media headshot? I was guilty of that until a few months ago when I finally asked a friend to help me out with professional photos (Thanks Stephanie!) Jessica Hammond offers up practical tips for taking better headshots.

On Goals:

Struggling With Perfectionism? Try This: YES. I am guilty of “The 12 Cookie Syndrome” Nicole Antoinette describes:  “Your goal is to not eat cookies, but then you have one cookie so you’re all, ‘Well, I’ve had one, so I might as well have 12 and then I’ll ‘start over’ again tomorrow.'” More on this and the perfectionism trap in this smart post.

This Week on JessicaLawlor.com:

Confessions of an Email Addict: How I Stopped Being a Slave to My Inbox: I admit it. I show all the classic signs of an email addict. But lately, I no longer feel like a slave to my inbox. Here’s why.

Goals

  • Rock my first-ever podcast interview! I was so honored when Melissa Anzman invited me to participate on her Launch Yourself Podcast! The interview is tomorrow and I’ll be sure to share a link as soon as the podcast is live!
  • Run at least two times this week. Last week, I practiced yoga three times and ran once. As I’m typing this, I just realized I set this same exact goal last week and didn’t accomplish it. This week? Run TWO times.
  • Catch up with friends! I have super fun plans this week with three different friends I haven’t seen in awhile and I can’t wait to catch up! I’m looking at you Lauren, Emily and Carrie!

Have any links or goals you’d like to share? Leave them in the comments!
