Monthly Check-In: Goodbye December, Hello January

monthly check-in- Jessica Lawlor
December in review: John Mayer concert in Baltimore, Christmas with the siblings and Buddy, New Year’s Eve with my good friend Rachel and the beautiful Rockefeller Tree in New York City.

Each month, I share three things I accomplished in the previous month and preview three things I’m excited about or hoping to accomplish in the month ahead. It’s fun to look back and forward, and as an added bonus, these monthly check-ins keep me accountable to reach my goals.

I hope you’ll join in and share your three things in the comments section! I’ve been thrilled to see that other bloggers enjoy my monthly check-ins and have adopted the format for their own blogs- this is AWESOME! If you write a similar monthly check-in/look ahead post, please feel free to utilize this format and be sure to leave a link in the comments below so we can all support you in your goals for the coming month!

In December, I…

1. Launched my first-ever contest on the blog. I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the number of people who participated in the Get Gutsy Essay Contest. I literally thought I’d maybe get four or five entries, but when the contest ended last week, I had 29 amazing, inspirational entries. Choosing the “winners” was a challenge, but I’m happy with the three essays I chose and featured on the blog. You can read ALL the amazing entries by checking out this post.

2. Completed the Runner’s World Holiday Run Streak Challenge. Oh man, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into when I challenged myself to complete Runner’s World’s Holiday Run Streak (run at least one mile every day between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day). I somehow rallied nearly 30 other people to do it with me and we kept in constant contact in a private (and very motivational) Facebook group. I’m proud to say I completed the challenge and ran every single day, but I learned that running every day is definitely not for me. More details to come in a post!

3. Roadtripped 615 miles in my little Nissan Rosie Rogue. In December, I went on three different mini-roadtrips. First up, I drove to NY for the first time (that is NEVER happening again, by the way, public transportation all the way!) to visit my old college roommate. We had amazing pizza in Brooklyn, saw the Rockefeller Tree, got massages and I even got snowed in an extra day there! Next, I headed to Atlantic City for the night for the work conference, where I saw the most spectacular sunrise over the ocean. That same weekend, my sister and I trekked to Baltimore in yet another snowstorm for an amazing John Mayer concert.

In January, I will…

1. Celebrate Get Gutsy Week! After launching a successful essay contest (see above), last week we officially celebrated Get Gutsy Week. This year, Get Gutsy Week involved sharing the three winning essays, tweeting about all 29 entries and creating a dedicated Pinterest board, but next year, I want to make it even bigger! I want to make Get Gutsy Week an annual event with even more activities to start your year off on the right foot. Have any ideas? Share with me!

2. Vacation in Punta Cana. I am SO excited to spend a week in beautiful Punta Cana this month. I went to the Dominican Republic last year for my birthday and I can’t wait to return for a few days of complete relaxation, (hopefully) beautiful weather, catching up on my reading, delicious fruity drinks, sun and sand.

3. Kick off a three-month hot yoga practice. As I’ve mentioned several times on the blog, I am newly-LOVING hot yoga. I did a one-month pass in October and took advantage, going 4-5 times per week. Since my month ended, I’ve been doing drop-in classes once a week or so, but toward the end of this month, I plan to purchase a three-month pass, so I can get even more serious about my practice. I’m determined to master Crow Pose!
