Start Your Week Right Sunday: Links and Goals

Start your week right! Every Sunday I post my favorite links from around the web and share my goals for the upcoming week.

Links

On PR:

Why Public Relations Gets No Respect: As a PR professional, this CNN Money article by Greg Galant rings just a little bit too true. The article explores why PR is not taken seriously as a business function and why PR has the opportunity to take center stage. The fabulous Gini Dietrich, chief blogger at  Spin Sucks wrote a post in response to this article with seven metrics PR should track to gain respect.

On Email Marketing:

The Science Behind Those Obama Campaign Emails: Email marketing is a relatively new aspect of PR/marketing to me since starting my job last December, so this Business Week article about Obama’s email campaign fascinates me. Totally interesting to see how different subject lines/layouts can compel people in different ways to either donate money or take some kind of action.

On Freelancing:

One Life Change I’m Making Because of My Email Detox: Alexis Grant, entrepreneur extraordinaire recently went on a complete email and social media detox and has decided to permanently delete her email from her smartphone. Oh, the horror! However, I so admire Alexis for this move.

On Life:

Doing Everything I’m Not Supposed to Do In My 20’s: My good friend Sarah Stackhouse comments on a recent Thought Catalog article about things you shouldn’t be doing in your 20’s. Take a look at the article; I’m with Sarah in finding myself guilty of quite a few of the items on this list.

Hey World- Be My Friend!: Oh, how I can relate…my friend Niki Ianni writes about how challenging it is to make friends post-college, especially in a new city. If you live in DC, consider reaching out…she’s awesome!

Just For Fun:

25 Little-Known Facts About Boy Meets World: In case you’ve been living under a rock this past week, you may have heard that a little  90’s hit show called Boy Meets World is reviving itself with a sequel called Girl Meets World. This great Thought Catalog piece shares 25 little gems about the show that you may not have known before. I personally cannot wait for Girl Meets World. Life=made.

Goals

  • A major event I’m planning for work is now two months away (AHHHH!). I want to spend a lot of time this week getting my ducks in a row so I’m not overly stressed during crunchtime.
  • Christmas. Shopping. (Yup- said this last week). One major gift ordered, but still many more to go.
  • PR the Jingle Bell 5K I’m running this weekend. As of right now, my fastest 5K time is 33:40, so I’d love to beat that time!

Have any links or goals you’d like to share? Leave them in the comments!

    1. Of course, your blog is one of my absolute favorites! 🙂 Good luck with the Christmas shopping!

  1. Hey! Love this roundup 🙂 Unfortunately, I’m not quite as ambitious as you described… I’m just getting rid of the email ALERTS on my phone, so I’m not notified every time I get a new email! I can still check my email on my phone 🙂

Jingle Bell 5K sounds like a ton of fun!

    1. Haha, oops! I must have read that wrong. But still, any action you’re taking to make email LESS a part of your day to day existence is admirable 🙂
